Digital Transfer Film printing, also known simply as DTF printing, is a modern and versatile printing technology used to print high-quality, full-color designs on textiles — especially T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, and other fabrics. Unlike traditional printing methods such as screen printing or heat transfer vinyl, DTF allows you to print vibrant designs directly onto a special transfer film, which is then heat-pressed onto the fabric.
This process delivers durable, flexible, and color-rich prints that work on cotton, polyester, blends, and even dark-colored garments.
Tips for gang print:
For efficient and high-quality gang print transfers, create a single sheet with multiple designs arranged closely together to maximize space. This technique, commonly used for Direct-to-Film (DTF) and other printing methods, significantly lowers costs and reduces material waste.
DTF transfer with a heat press machine
To apply a DTF transfer with a heat press, first preheat the press to 280–320°F (140–160°C) and pre-press the garment for about 10 seconds. Position the transfer on the garment, then press for 5–15 seconds with medium to firm pressure, depending on the manufacturer's instructions. Peel the film (either hot, warm, or cold, depending on the transfer type), and then re-press for a final 5–10 seconds with parchment or a Teflon sheet over the design for added durability.
1. Prepare the heat press and garment: Preheat your heat press to 280–320°F (140–160°C). Lay the garment flat and pre-press it for about 10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
Ensure it is correctly aligned before proceeding.
3. Apply the first press: Press for 5–15 seconds with medium to firm pressure. The exact time and pressure may vary depending on the specific transfer, so check the manufacturer's guidelines.
4. Peel the transfer: Peel the plastic film away from the garment.
Cold/Warm Peel: Wait for the transfer to cool to the touch (or "lukewarm") before peeling. If the design lifts, re-press the area and try peeling again once it has cooled slightly.
